Breastfeeding support & introducing solids: individual guidance for strong nutrition
How long do you want to breastfeed? A year, six months or not at all? Breastfeeding is a very broad topic that calls for individual and personal advice.
Breastfeeding support also has its firm place during pregnancy – in antenatal care, pregnancy counselling, birth preparation or in special courses on the topic of breastfeeding.
By breastfeeding, women give their children the best start in life. Midwives know the health benefits of breastfeeding for mother and child and therefore encourage women to breastfeed for as long as they and their children wish. Individual advice and help with all questions concerning breastfeeding are embedded in holistic midwifery care during pregnancy, birth, the postnatal period and the time thereafter.
Sometimes complications can arise with breastfeeding. With good and competent support during the first weeks of breastfeeding, these problems can often be avoided.
If you have decided not to breastfeed your child, I will support you on that path too.
The WHO (World Health Organization) recommends breastfeeding exclusively for 6 months and then continuing to breastfeed while introducing appropriate solid food.
I advise you on questions such as
- When is my baby ready for the first solid food?
- How do I go about it?
- Purée or baby-led weaning?
- Ready-made food or home-cooked?
- What should be avoided?
- as well as allergies and intolerances
